Importance of Mininal Thermal Mass

Other than the benefits of minimum space utilization, there are significant measurement advantages offered by the 300 Series due to the extremely small thermocouple junction and wire size. These include:

1. Very fast response. Because of the small thermal mass of these sensors, time constants of less than 1 millisecond in air can be obtained.

2. Minimized radiation errors and conduction losses. The exceptionally small size of less than .0003" thick for the exposed Micro-Disc junction greatly reduces errors caused by radiation from the junction to its surroundings, and the use of extremely fine wire elements minimizes conduction losses.

3. Minimal intrusion. The small probe size creates a negligible disturbance to the environment and minimizes obstruction to the flow of liquids or gases in small pipes.
